A Hambo Sketch Challenge!

Happy Sunday everyone - and welcome to the first ever "Hogs & Sketches" Challenge! Starting now, each month a new sketch will be offered to you for inspiration in your card-making. And since this is a Hambo-sponsored challenge, we want to see your Hambo stamps (rubber or digital) being put to use! I know they're nice to look at on the shelf -- you might even take them down and stroke them from time to time -- but now it's time to ink 'em up! Don't have any Hambo stamps to use?? (Blasphemy!!) No worries... we have a couple of free digital images that you're welcome to use in the challenges.

Melissa Edwards is hosting the challenge, and will do so each month. (If she needs a break, another DT member will fill in.) You can go to her blog for all the details. She'll be using the "Mr. Linky" service to keep track of all who are playing along throughout the month, and at the end of the month (Sept. 30 for this first challenge), she'll put all the names of the challenge participants in a jar and draw out one name ... and that person will win a nifty prize of some sort. This month, since it's the kick-off of our challenge, I'll not only be offering some Hambo rubber stamps as the prize, but some other goodies as well! Fun, fun! (ETA: While your link must be added to Mr. Linky to be eligible for the prize, if you also choose to post your card in a public gallery, you can use the keyword "hands1" so it will be easier to find in searches.)

Here is Melissa's premiere sketch:

And here is one of my interpretations of it:

I've had this "cracked pavement" DP for quite some time now, and finally realized that it would work perfectly with Tim's "Hammer Time" digital image. The Skyline serves as the "scalloped" detail from the sketch. (Yes, you can take liberties like this. The sketch is just a basic outline to get you going, but Melissa promises not to be to strict in the interpretation.) Originally, I was going to pair this with the "You Shake My Nerves" Fractured Funny saying ... but opted for the "Rock My World" sentiment instead, just because it's more compact. But wouldn't the other sentiment be fun with this image as well?

A couple more details that might not be obvious: I chose this yellow ribbon because it reminded me of the yellow construction tape that's intended to keep people out of the work area. I actually tried writing "caution" on the ribbon, but the ink kept running, so I left it off. And if you look again at the sketch, you see the ribbon running THROUGH the sentiment: my ribbon is above the sentiment, but look at that crack in the ground... running right through where the ribbon is in the sketch! (Patting myself on the back for a happy coincidence! LOL) I know there are a lot of people who aren't fond of a gray/yellow color combination ... and I might be one of them. But I think it all depends on finding the right shades. In this case, a dark charcoal with bright yellow is quite eye-catching, I think.

I'll have some more cards following this sketch to post later this week, and you can see what the other design team ladies have come up with as well by checking out Melissa challenge post.

Thanks for stopping in on a Sunday -- and we hope you'll take the challenge and play along with us. No sense in us having ALL the fun!

Have a great week! :)
